OK I just now was able to catch up real quick on the last two parts, and what a cool way to wrap up Halloween! The ending is pretty appropriate in that vein too, since most Halloween stories finish with a "HAPPY ENDING??" type of thing. The final explanation for the ghost was so creepy and sad, and "he's not yours" and really I just like this as an ending overall :D
I'm going to decide for my own personal reading that they're dead, because that reading just feels right to me. Even though this whole time I've been chanting LIVE BOYS LIVE, you have a continual author theme of "there are things worse than death" and I just like it this way! Because even though they're dead, they're escaped, they're happy or at least comparatively happy, and together. That's a happy ending to me even though I was expecting completely otherwise. They're okay, whatever okay might mean in this and alive really isn't the important part.
