Yes! Yes it is. Though likely mostly subconsciously. That, I will admit, I put in because I felt like it and because it fit the flow of the passage, not because I think it really would happen.
He didn't have a note ready D: It wasn't the scheduled note-time! That was probably confusing to him too. I was tempted to have him actually go after canon!ror - like, really go after him, drop him right there, and try to get the mask 'back', but that would have a) publically given away his identity, b) probably gotten him in trouble in a world just getting used to the idea that he's safe to let wander the streets, and c) undermined the sort of subtle tension I wanted to paint between them and the alternate world, and the symmetry of his comments at the beginning with his unwillingness to talk about it actually getting to him at the end.
