He sure was racist, and I wish fandom wrote him like that more often.
For Laurie... I do feel like she reacted "reasonably" to circumstances. So to speak. Sure, she had issues, but they were of a level with what happened to her. She knew what the issues were and mostly dealt with them, as much as she could. Finding out about her father made her break down for a few minutes, but then she got back to her feet and later on integrated the knowledge. That seems healthy to me.
For Dan... Yeah, I might be minimizing his problems just by comparing him with the others. Heh.
