It's funny how strange a story like this makes me feel. As a fellow Catholic, I too have strange notions about life and death, although I do not believe in Purgatory, because a benevolent God wouldn't let someone suffer in pain. Rorschach, caught in the middle and yet somehow alive, is the perfect balance of this, and he is not suffering. He is with Dan, and he did come back, but as someone different, someone who accepts the things the old Rorschach pushed away. Somehow, death changed him, and the celebration for me of All Souls Day is not praying for those in Purgatory, but celebrating lives. This story captures that, because Rorschach, for all intents and purposes is alive, and he knows it. On a happier not, I love the line about Rorschach wanting to take a bath, because again, Old Rorschach would never have conceded to that!
