etherati: B&W Dan and Ror in front of Owlship, from GN (mothman)

Okay, so. I've noticed the lack of a fanfic rec comm for watchmen here on LJ - not a place to post fics or index all of them, but a place for people to make recommendations of things they really like so that people can get to the really good stuff without sifting through stuff they don't want. I'd like to fix that. It would be completely 'open' in both the sense of membership(though actual posts would be moderated just for the sake of making sure recs are comprehensible and the fics being recced aren't for example one giant run-on paragraph with no punctuation OH HO I DO RECOGNIZE THE HYPOCRISY) and in the sense that fics of any type/rating/genre/whatever can be recced, from fluff to AU to extreme kink, as long as it's high quality.

BUT I NEED A NAME FOR IT.

And I'm blanking. I can always fall back on something like watchfic_recs but if possible I want to call it something clever and interesting that people will remember and not have to experiment with where exactly the underscore goes and IS IT WATCHFIC OR WATHMENFIC OR WMFIC OR WHAT. Preferably something that has something to do with WM. XD

So. Suggestions? Even cracky suggestions, really, throw them out here. Asking you guys first because you are all wonderful and brilliant.

novaexpress was the first thing that sprung to mind. Thought maybe you'd appreciate T.S. Eliot connection via Burroughs, too ;)

I THOUGHT OF THAT TOO. And it gives us a cool 'subtitle' to use in the header graphic - the 'spirit of 77' headline - and it is a canonical publication. HURM.

HURM INDEED

I kinda like thanksforcoffee too, though that's a lot more tenuous, hehe.

p.s. I'll reply to your pm tomorrow, I'm a bit too fuzzy to be properly coherent this evening <3

AND ANYWAY I UNDERSTAND. Besides, 'tomorrow' for you just means 'stay up late' for me. XD 'thanksforcoffee' haha. NOT TAKEN AT LEAST. It is more tenuous, but I love that whole exchange in the GN; wish it'd been in the movie. Lemme feel that one out.

Yes, I missed that scene from the film. Definitely needed moar Rorschach watching Dan sleep.

What, don't look at me like that.

I'm not looking at you funny! It was an awesome scene. Honestly the creepy stalkerishness of Ror watching Dan sleep and stealing his aftershave aside, the specific way the dialogue played out there - the way he left the implication that Dan could be the next one attacked to stand out there on its own, awarded special importance - says something. Something subtle, but something nonetheless. If he was just trying to push Dan's buttons I think he would have emphasized Laurie most likely, or even himself - he knows Dan values other people's lives over his own, and if he was just going for a reaction, that would have been the obvious way to go. But he emphasized Dan instead, which seems to be a tacit admission that that was what was weighing on his own mind the most.

In the movie, of course, they gave us Ror's 'maybe I was keeping an eye on you' line in their first scene, which was <3 and not in the GN, and we also got hobo!Ror visibly stalking Dan just about everywhere he went. XD Which got across a lot of the same overall impressions as the newspaper/aftershave/thanks for the coffee scene - but I still missed it. Everyone focuses on the handshake scene and while I agree that's a pretty blatant bit of subtext, this scene here is really just about on the same level imo.
